چکیده

In the recent years, the introduction and development of simple and portable sensors has been the focus of researchers in nearly all scientific domains, particularly in the biomedical settings. Giant magnetoresistance (GMR) provides a cutting-edge sensor technology. The GMR-based sensors are capable to affordably and sensitively detect and quantify microand nano-magnetic particles, even in very weak magnetic fields. In this paper, we introduce a highly sensitive needle-type GMR-based sensor, designed for the identification and quantification of Escherichia coli O157:H7 bacteria covered by superparamagnetic beads, Dynabeads® MAX E.coli O157. The sensor characteristics, measurement system setup and the properties of the magnetic marker solution are discussed in detail.

Spatial detection of ferromagnetic wires using GMR sensor and based on shape induced anisotropy

The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new technique for row spacing measurement in a wire array using giant magnetoresistive (GMR) sensor. The self-rectifying property of the GMR-based probes leads to accurately detection of the magnetic field fluctuations caused by surface-breaking cracks in conductive materials, shape-induced magnetic anisotropy, etc. The ability to manufacture probes h...

Submicron giant magnetoresistive sensors for biological applications

We have fabricated submicron giant magnetoresistive (GMR) structures and evaluated their sensitivity for biomagnetic applications. GMR devices were fabricated using electron beam lithography, with minimum dimensions below 100 nm. We developed a new characterization technique for these sensors, using a scanned nanoscale magnetic probe and monitoring the resulting response of the sensors. The mag...

Measurement of Minute Changes in Magnetic Flux Density by Means of a Novel GMR Needle Probe for Application in Hyperthermia Therapy

The accuracy of heat deposition, which is proportional to magnetic fluid weight density, appears to be a major factor in the quality of magnetic-fluid-based hyperthermia. An innovative giant magnetoresistance (GMR) needle probe is proposed as a means of estimating very-low-concentration magnetic fluid weight density in a low-invasive way. The method of estimation is based on the difference betw...
